Safer Night Riding Begins With Good Lighting - Riding at night is about seeing and being seen. A good headlight illuminates the road or trail ahead to help you react and respond to obstacles or unsafe conditions. It also helps drivers spot you sooner so they have time to slow down or pass at a safe distance. In the rear, a taillight is a worthwhile addition to a reflector because a driver can see you from farther away. The best rear lights flash at a fast enough interval that drivers, even at highway speeds, can see you. New bulb and lens technologies have improved cycling lights dramatically. And better batteries now let you ride for hours between charges while still being relatively light weight.
